Rejuvenating Beltsville

In this thesis, I intend to suggest a comprehensive master plan of Beltsville, MD focused on walkability in order to improve community engagement & sense of place.

In order to deliver the aforementioned master plan, I will endeavor to understand Beltsville’s current makeup (& its contributing factors) more deeply & find solutions to its lackluster sense of place. More specifically, I will seek to address the lack of pedestrian pathways and other useful exploration-encouraging tools. This will entail a detailed analysis of street layout, zoning, and land use for the purpose of targeted practical interventions.

The goal isn’t to strip Beltsville of its character, but to enrich it by implementing structures present in similar thriving communities.
